Search Engine Optimization
What do search engines say about your company? Are you missing out on sales or leads because your site has poor visibility on search engines? Is your web site optimized for mobile search?
If you are overlooking the basics of search engine optimization, that is, preparing your web site for search engine submission, this could lead to poor visibility and confusing search results compromising opportunities to get new customers.
Take a look at this example of a poor search engine result snippet:
(based on a search on the brand ACME)
And, compare it to a result snippet for the same search after optimization:
As you can see, the latter result communicates value, whereas the first result does not say much. Which would you click?
You may be thinking, but this is a search on the brand name ACME. And what difference does it make if no one knows your brand? Well, eventually people will get to know your brand (maybe through a referral or other channels) and they will search for your brand name. And when they do, the search results should communicate your value proposition.
In order to achieve this, your brand name should be associated with the popular keywords people use to search for the products and services you offer. The sooner this is done the better, as ranking on organic search results will take time.
This starts with creating quality persuasive content that includes the popular keywords used by searchers to find the products and services that you offer. In the long term, this, along with other initiatives, will help you rank better on the organic search engine results.
As an example, if you sell “quality gadgets” then a search result snippet from your web site should also communicate value:
(assuming “quality gadgets” is a popular search term relevant to your business)
On top of this, enhanced search engine results, or what is referred to as rich snippets, from your web site can lead to higher click through rates. For example, if you sell products from your web site, then each product page could show additional information on the search result snippet such as reviews, price and availability.
Continuing with our example above, here is a search result for “smart gizmos”:
(assuming its a popular keyword relevant to your business)
Breadcrumb
Product ratings
Price information
Availability
